June - August 2019 book haul

I just realised I never posted a June book haul, so I'll just include it in my August haul.

At the end of June I rewarded myself with a trip to my local Waterstones and an independent English bookstore (Sterling books) and these are the 10 books that I got:

I managed to restrain myself from buying any books in July, but that restraint fell away when I went to those same bookstores with two friends at the beginning of August.

The ones on the right I got for €25 in total in the bargain section of two Fnac shops.

I know I said I needed to get my TBR down by the end of the year but every now and then I totally fall off the wagon and buy a lot of books :-s

Book Haul Dec. '18 - Jan. - March '19.

Let's take a look at the books I bought during the last couple of months.

At the very end of December I went bookshopping with a friend and we went to Waterstones Brussels and Sterling Books.

Here are the books that I got there:

Half a King by Joe Abercrombie

In January I bought only one book: Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody. I bought this secondhand from someone I follow on IG.

I didn't buy any books in February, but I did buy some in March:

Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor (which I've already read.)

The His Dark Materials box set by Philip Pullman. (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass) I've read these about 15 years ago for my dissertation, but the copies I had didn't match. Plus, I also found out that the first one was the American edition, which is apparently censored. So I wanted to get the matching UK editions and I have to say, they look stunning.

First of all, apparently May was a good month when it comes to book buying. And I've actually read both books.

Out of all of the books I got in June 2016 I've only read The Vampire Academy graphic novel. But I am currently reading Little Women, so yay for me!

From my June 2017 book haul I read Ten Thousand Skies Above You and A Million Worlds With You.

January - April 2018 book haul.

I've been on a bookbuying ban since October 2017 and I have been really good about it, except for the month of March where I caved and ordered 9 books. I'll talk more about that later in this post. 

Let's take a look at the books I bought during the first four months of 2018:

January

*The Cruel Prince by Holly Black - this was the January Fairyloot book.

February

*Immortal Reign by Morgan Rhodes. This is book 6 in the Falling Kingdom series. I read it as soon as I got it :-)

*The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert - the February Fairyloot book. This was one of my anticipated releases for this year.

*Angelfall by Susan Ee. This was actually a gift from a former pupil :-)

March

So this is the month where I totally fell of the wagon. In my defence: I had a 10% discount code from BookDepository and out of the 9 books I ordered 4 of them I had already read as e-books or listened to as an audiobook. One book was also a gift for a friend's birthday.

*Unravel Me - Unite Me - Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. I have read these before as e-books. I already own Shatter Me, so I wanted to complete the series. I also pre-ordered the paperback of Restore Me, but it was released in April.

*Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop. I listened to this one last August and I had to wait until this year for it to come out in paperback.

*The Way of Kings part 1 and The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson. I love the Mistborn trilogy, so I want to continue with the spin-off series and venture on to another one of his series.

*Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I wanted to see the movie but I needed to read the book before that. I managed to finish the book a couple of hours before seeing the movie :-)

April

*Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, another one of my most anticipated releases of 2018. I actually ordered the special Obsidio box from TheYAChronicles. It took about two weeks for it to arrive but it was worth the wait. The items in the box were so cool and I loooooved the book. It was a great conclusion to the trilogy.

*Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi. Like I said, I ordered this in March but it wasn't released until April.

*The April Fairyloot box was delayed, so I'll be adding this to my May haul. I've actually cancelled my subscription of Fairyloot for the time being, because I have been really disappointed with the boxes lately. The April box sounded interesting, but the May one didn't. At first I wanted to look for a different subscription box, but I won't be doing that.

Book hauls revisited - April 2016 - 2017.

Let's see if how I've done with reading the books I bought in April 2016 and 2017.

April 2016 

*Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard.These are two novellas.

*Stars Above by Marissa Meyer. This is a collection of stories about all the characters in the Lunar Chronicles.

*The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. Book two in the Tearling trilogy.

April 2017 

*Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. This was a Fairyloot book.

These are the ones I've actually read.

Even though I didn't buy that many books, I've only read Cruel Crown. I only liked one of the two novellas.

I really want to continue the Tearling trilogy, but I'll have to reread The Queen of the Tearling before reading this one.

Book hauls revisited - March 2016 - 2017.

I'm playing catch-up so let's take a look at my March 2016 and 2017 book hauls.

March 2016

*Written in Red by Anne Bishop. After accidentally buying the second book in January, I finally got the first book in the series.

*Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

March 2017

*Wintersong by S. Jay Jones. If I'm honest, this was a cover buy.

*Hunted by Meagan Spooner.

*Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. This has a STUNNING edition: the cover, the sprayed edges!! The book was included in the anniversary box from Fairyloot.

These are the ones I've actually read.

*Written in Red. I read this series over the summer last year and I loooooooved it. I alternated between reading the physical book and listening to the audiobook and it was great. I highly recommend the audiobook as well, btw. The humor is so on point, it's wonderful.

*Glass Sword. To be honest, I can hardly remember what this book is about. I'm still unsure if I'll be continuing with the series or not. Maybe I'll get the e-book or borrow it from the library.

*Hunted. I read this for the #OfWonderlandBookClub on Goodreads and the theme was 'New to me author'. I really liked this beauty and the beast retelling. Unfortunately, I was also a bit underwhelmed and even disappointed by the ending.


I'm actually really proud of myself, because not only did I not buy as many books as in February, I've actually already read 3 out of these 5.

I know everyone and there mother has read Strange the Dreamer by now and I really want to pick it up soon. But on the other hand, I want to postpone reading it until closer to the release date of the second book. We finally have a release date, which is October 2.

Book hauls revisited - February 2016 - 2017.

I'm running a bit behind with these book haul revisited posts, so it's time to take a look at my bookhauls for February 2016 and 2017.

February 2016

*A Memory of Lights by Brandon Sanderson / Robert Jordan. I actually ordered this from Abebooks because I couldn't find the mass market paperback anymore.

*Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini. I've since heard mixed things about this book.

*Mystic City by Theo Lawrence. Same story as with Trial by Fire.

*Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott. This was supposed to be a trilogy, but apparently the third was never released.

*Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. This was a gift from one of my best friends :-)

*Abraham Lincoln, vampire hunter and Last America Vampire by Seth Graeme-Smith. These were both gifts from a close friend as well.

 

*Six of Crows, Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo. I already owned and read Shadow and Bone and I loved it, so I ordered the other two books in the trilogy.

*Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch. I had already read the first book in the trilogy.

February 2017

*Fables volume 3: Storybook Love by Billy Willingham.

*Saga volume 4 by Brian K Vaughan.

*Alex+Ada volume 1 by Jonathan Luna.

*Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. Book 5 in the Throne of Glass series.

*Gilded Cage by Vic James. I got this in MyBookishCrate bookbox.

*The Novice by Taran Matharu.

*Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. 

*The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins.

These are the ones I've already read.

*Six of Crows. I loved this book and Leigh Bardugo has become an (almost) auto-buy author.

*Siege and Storm. I really enjoyed this a lot.

*Ruin and Rising. I went into this book with really high expectations and for the most part it was really good, but I found the ending to be a bit anti-climatic.

*Ice Like Fire. I've actually read this twice. I really enjoyed it the first time around, but I really struggled to get through it the second time. But I wanted to finish it because I wanted to read the third book.

*Fables 3. I enjoyed this, right up to the final pages and I'm probably not going to be continuing with this series.

* Saga volume 4. I found this to be less good than the first three. I did want to continue with the series.

*Alex + Ada. I looooooved this so much.

I wasn't kidding last month when I said that I haven't read all the books I bought in the past.
